The most popular trees are the Japanese maple and the Crape myrtle because they do not grow too big and are proportionate to small spaces.  Silver maples are great for large lawns and getting the best shade.  Whereas the Monterey cypress gets too much shade and is not ideal for the lawn because of the lack of light.
