The importance of adequate ventilation
This past week we have been fielding a number of house calls where there is little or no roof top or soffit ventilation.
When you do not have proper ventilation there is no where for fresh air to come in, or hot humid air rising in your attic to go. This makes for a very unhealthy roof system. The result is that the roof shingles fail prematurely as the air tries to seep out anywhere it can. This means the air seeps between roof deck boards up under shingles and causes bubbling shingles.
To avoid premature roof shingle wear please ensure you have adequate ventilation.

Another significant impact of improper venting is Ice damming in winter!
Venting maintains uniform roof sheathing temperature, which reduces the likelihood that ice dams will form. Without good ventilation, warm spots form near the eaves that melt snow, which can later re-freeze into a dam. More melting snow can build up behind the ice dam and damage the home.
