Wind Damage Shingle Repair and Roof Assessment

The Reason Homeowner Called Mr. Roof Repair:
During a recent wind storm, shingles had gone missing.
The Problems We Found:

Missing Shingle Repair

The Reason Homeowner Called Mr. Roof Repair:
Roof was missing shingles after a recent wind storm
The Problems We Found:
After we inspected the roof surface we found there were 4 missing shingles in 2 areas: on the top ridge at the back of home and between two plumbing stacks.  We also discovered rows of shingles lifting on the bottom left side of gable near the starter.
The Solutions for the Roof:
We replaced the missing shingles and sealed them using roof cement.  We also renailed and sealed the loose shingles.

Wind Damage to Roof

Below a skylight (approximately 6 ft below) there were missing shingles due to wind damage. This left exposed wood as there is no underlayment so water was hitting roof deck and pouring into home.
We replaced these shingles using chem caulking and nails so they won’t get lifted again in this area. We also double nailed each shingle tab and sealed around a furnace vent that was starting to leak due to no sealant.

Wind Damage to Shingles Etobicoke

Repair Summary:
The home has missing shingles due to wind damage. We let homeowner know he has a specialty shingle – a mix between 3 tab and laminate shingle.
Our Roof Repair Specialist offered to cover area with deck armour and come back with correct shingles.
Homeowner said he will be redoing roof soon and requested that the shingles be replaced with any type he had.
We installed brown 3 tab shingles in missing areas.
We also fixed the area below where the shingles were coming loose – re secured shingles in this area.

Wind Damaged Shingles

Repair Summary:
Problem: There were three sections with missing shingles most likely wind damage.
Solution: Our roof repair specialist removed the broken shingles and installed new shingles using roof cement and nails. Roof cement will hold down the shingles so they don’t blow away in future.
Other areas could still loose shingles in the future as roof was installed with no underlayment and no sealant.
A roof assessment was done and the rest of roof looks to be in good condition.

Wind Damage and Incorrectly Installed Vents

A section of shingles is missing, ten shingles in one area were missing due to wind damage.
We removed the excess tabs that were ripped and removed some hip and ridge shingles.
We applied roof cement to the area and installed new shingles. We also applied roof cement where the old shingles met the new shingles as well as under the shingle tabs so they cant lift up again with the wind.

Wind Causes Missing Shingles

There were a total of 9 missing shingles. We had to remove the top tabs of these missing shingles and installed new shingles.
There is no roof leak guarantee. All we are doing is replacing the missing shingles the roof is deteriorated and cracking on the keys of shingles and leaking everywhere.
We recommend that the customer discusses all replacement options. The roof needs to be replaced and cannot be repaired.

Loose and Missing Shingles from Wind Damage

The homeowner has shingles with wind damage close to the top of the roof. Some of shingles were put in with coil nails and some were only installed using small nails which only go into the decking so far and easily be blown away.

We replaced with them new shingles – first, we put roof cement underneath the decking and also where the new shingles meet the existing shingles. We checked the roof surface and found no other missing shingles at this time.

There was an ice dam and leak in the winter and now during the rain.
There is a leak into bathroom in front of the house. We also assessed the roof condition and advised if replacement was required to sell home or if he can get by because a home inspector will make a report.
Our roofing specialist noted this home has a very messy roof, and needs a roof replacement asap and they are selling house soon.

MrRoofRepair.ca provided emergency roof repair service to this home that had suffered severe wind damage after the wind storm. Missing shingles left the roof deck exposed and could cause further problems if left untreated. We were able to install a temporary roof to solve the roof problem immediately and later provided an estimate to help with a permanent solution.
