Keeping Your Home Safe from the Damage of Winter 150x150 Keeping Your Home Safe from the Damage of WinterNow that we are in the final stretch of winter, it may be a good time to review the steps we can take to ensure that our home can deal with the wallop of winter.

It is recommended that any build-up of snow be removed from your roof.  This is because of the likelihood of the development of ice dams.  Ice dams can cause serious damage to the structure of the roof and the integrity of your shingles.  Always be careful when removing snow or ice, not only for your own safety, but also that you don`t rip off any shingles and do more damage.

Attention should also be paid to your pipes.  Be sure to keep the heat on to prevent frozen pipes from bursting and causing massive damage.  If you are planning on being away for a significant amount of time, leave your water faucets open slightly, ensuring that the space around the pipes is not cold.

Special attention should be paid to chimneys, ensure they are cleaned regularly and that there are no blockages.  Taking these steps now will and keeping them in mind for next season will go a long way in preventing serious repair on your home.
