Repair Specialist installed kitchen exhaust vent using roof cement and nails. We cut a hole where homeowner wanted it by putting a nail through exact point where homeowner had cut hole in kitchen where vent was to be installed.
Inspected rest of roof surface.
There is a turbine vent on left side of home that is broken. This needs to be replaced as it will allow water into home which will lead to interior damage. There is also one on right side of home that is allowing in small amounts of water as well. Repair specialist spoke with homeowner to recommend that these be removed and replaced with two large size 14 inch box style exhaust vents.
A quote will follow for this permanent repair.

Repair Summary:
Upon arrival we found that there were a total of four turbine vents on roof. One is broken off and one is noisy and bent (metal inside is broken). There are two other turbine vents as well on the roof – one is working and the final one is slightly grinding now and will get worse. The one that is currently working will also start failing in near future. Seals and bearings are breaking down and the metal that keeps them turning are snapping just due to the age of the vents. It is recommended that these two additional turbine vents be replaced as well.
Today we removed the first two exhaust vents and installed two new turbine vents. We also sealed a four inch exhaust vent as it was not installed properly (was installed on top of shingles). The sealing done today is a temporary roof repair and it is recommended that this vent be replaced and properly installed using roof cement and nails.

Problem: There was a leaking vent and a couple of missing shingles.
Solution : We removed all broken pieces of shingles on the roof and installed new shingles using roof cement and nails. We sealed them with sealant so they don’t blow off again.
The vent was located to the right of the valley. Our roof repair specialist found out that water was crossing the valley and splashing into left side of vent. In order to repair it, we hed to remove the roof vent and reinstall it with roof cement – under the vent, over the vent and in between shingles. We also sealed the exposed nails in the vent across bottom with chem caulking. Also sealed 2 to 3 feet of the valley so nothing can get under the valley.

For the other vent installation we removed a three inch pipe and the pipe flashing and installed the second exhaust vent in that hole. We then went into attic and installed the insulated holes and connected the bathroom fans.

The chimney is very close to the ridge, 6 inches from ridge, so it was not flashed properly from back of chimney to ridge as well as from left and right of chimney at the top.
Water and snow is piling up in the 6 inch area under shingles going under ridge, and then water leaks into the attic.
We removed shingles behind the chimney, added roof cement to the whole area, and then installed a ridge cap by counter tarring each one to prevent future roof leaks.

Fascia damage where aluminum fascia had fallen off due to no drip edge installed on home so water seeping in behind eaves trough which made eaves trough fall out half way. When it fell down, just a bit only inches it took the fascia with it. We reattached the fascia and re nailed the eaves trough in using 4 inch framing nails and gutter spikes in new areas so it will hold. Also, we found a leaking seam on lower eaves trough on first story was resealed where original sealant was cracking.

Another issue is where water is getting behind the eaves trough on left hand side of the dormer (just below that). There was no L Flashing installed around big main dormer so all shingles are butted up against dormer causing water to get in and leak. The water is going up behind the shingles and leaking in down behind the eaves trough making it look like an eaves trough issue. To redo this area completely would be a costly job and repair specialist discussed this with the homeowner. As an alternative the entire area and L Flashing could be sealed completely using chem caulking to ensure it is water tight. This would be a process that would need to redone again in approximately five years to ensure it remains watertight.
