Permanent Valley Repair

Problem : Leaking Valley
Solution: In order to repair the valley, we had to remov one shingle on either side of the 16 foot valley. We then installed a new ice and water shield on each side of the valley. We then used roof cement to seal both sides of the water proof membrane and then installed new shingles using roof cement and nails for a closed valley method.

Roof valley showed wear we needed to immediately repair by cutting back asphalt shingles and sealing the valley with caulking.
Please note, this was only temporary and due to expansion and contraction of the shingles the sealant will eventually fail causing roof leaks a permanent solution would be to add metal flashing to the valley when we redo the roof.

Temporary roof repair was done with roof cement and membrane half way up valley 6’ long and 1’ wide.
The original valley was installed too tight and stretched and ripped with the different weather conditions and now it’s brittle and falling apart.
The valley is located on the right side of the home above the front door. The valley was a flat roof membrane valley. We also found a crack in the brick work 6” on right hand side of window and valley was 4’ away from the window.

We repaired the roof 15 feet from bottom by placing roof cement and fabric in the valley to avoid any further roof damage.
We were able to put an ice and water shield underneath the bottom of the front roof above the awning and roof cemented over the top.
Unfortunately, this is only a temorary valley repair and the roof needs to be replaced.

The importance of adequate ventilation

The result is that the roof shingles fail prematurely as the air tries to seep out anywhere it can. This means the air seeps between roof deck boards up under shingles and causes …
